The Hotel Berlin, Berlin is the third largest hotel in the capital. Dominating a street corner in the city centre, it has a modern look—and a modern outlook. As one of only 5 hotels to be a certified partner of Berlin’s Sustainable Meetings initiative, it’s eco-conscious credentials are high, and it’s easy to go green when travelling to the hotel too. There’s easy access by train and bus, direct bus links from both Schönefeld airport and nearby Tegel airport, and the U-Nollendorfplatz U-bahn metro station just 5 minutes away. With sustainability in mind, the hotel offers special Event Tickets for a fixed price from every DB station in Germany, guaranteeing sustainable long-distance travel and offering free public transport in Berlin once you arrive.

A prime position and top-class facilities

Whether you’re in Berlin for business or pleasure, the nearby Tiergarten is a wonderful place to spend some down time. This large, beautiful park, with its lakes, sculptures and beer-garden, stretches through central Berlin and provides an oasis of green calm in this bustling city. Berlin’s Aquarium, Zoo and many museums, historical sites and other attractions are nearby too.

You don’t need to go to a museum to discover Berlin’s history, though. Each of the hotel’s 701 rooms tells a piece of Berlin history, with authentic furnishings and details. But don’t worry—they have free internet access for all guests too! There’s also the well-equipped gym, sauna, and public spaces with the slick interiors you'd expect from a modern hotel, as well as the added bonus of a summer garden where you can eat, drink or just relax. As part of its green commitment, guests can hire not just bikes, but also Segways and electric tricycle scooters to explore the capital.

For business visitors, the hotel offers 48 air-conditioned, accessible rooms with state-of-the-art facilities, which can be used flexibly for meetings and events of all kinds. The largest space can accommodate up to 550 people. All meeting and event rooms provide adaptable lighting, audio and projection systems and Wi-Fi. There’s also in-house technical support, and the hotel’s Conference & Events team guarantees their support and professional organisation to ensure your event runs smoothly.

The hotel’s facilities and location make it an ideal meeting or event venue, but as a Green Key label holder and Sustainable Partner of the Sustainable Meetings initiative, it’s specifically a great choice for sustainable events. The Green Key label represents its adherence to strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education, and a promise that guests are helping to make a difference on an environmental level. And as a Sustainable Partner of Berlin’s Sustainable Meetings initiative, the hotel has been evaluated against extensive Governance, risk and compliance, Business, Environment and Society criteria, based on internationally recognised frameworks.

Green credentials

The hotel’s long-term sustainability program was launched on its special Environment Day in July 2018. Aside from using renewable energies (including the 10% of its requirement produced by its own rooftop photovoltaic system), the hotel also implements a host of water and energy-saving measures. It limits the changing of linens and towels, only doing so on request; uses the water-saving Vileda cleaning system; has implemented reduced lighting, heating and air-conditioning systems; sets mini bars to their lowest level; and uses energy efficient appliances.

The hotel also continually monitors its carbon footprint, pollution causers, and its waste, continually looking for ways to reduce CO2 emissions and consumption. It practices carbon offset and uses green travel options, reusable packaging and eco-friendly detergents, furnishing and consumables wherever possible. Waste is separated on site and the ReFood company collects its food waste and transforms it into environmentally-friendly energy. Only MSC certified fish products are used and regional suppliers with short delivery routes are favoured. The hotel also has green office strategies in place. They sponsor local sustainable beekeeping firm Salubria who provide the hotel with delicious amber nectar. A perfect start to the day!

The hotel is committed to social and employer responsibility too, with employee incentive schemes and continuing professional development that both incorporate sustainability. The Hotel Berlin, Berlin supports "Alles im Fluss" and wirBERLIN e.V., two local organisations working towards social and environmental prosperity, and Christopher Street Day (an annual LGBTQ) celebration. It’s also part of the ‘pink pillow Berlin Collection’: ”hotels that believe with all their heart that all guests should be welcomed exactly as they are!”

“We inspire our guests, employees, business partners and suppliers to become a living part of our energy and environmental commitment and to carry our vision with enthusiasm and commitment beyond the boundaries of our company,” says the management team.

“We see it as a matter of course, and our responsibility, to be a partner in social projects in Berlin and promote them, both today and in the future, and inspire other companies to follow our example.”

It’s unsurprising, then, that an increasing number of event planners see choosing the Hotel Berlin, Berlin for their sustainable event as a matter of course too.
